rinho says.“ We offer to our customers not only a product, but all the solutions.” This mindset is supported by close collaboration between engineering, production, and sales teams, ensuring that every project is approached holistically.
In practice, this often means working directly with customers to develop new products or improve existing ones. One example involved a defense application in the United States.“ We developed a product that saved about 35 % on scrap loss and about 40 % on machine time,” Kouba explains. The innovation helped the customer secure long-term government contracts, demonstrating the value of partnership-driven development.
Logistics and global advantage Böllinghaus Steel’ s global structure also plays a key role in its North American success. With its rolling mill located in Portugal, the company benefits from logistical advantages that reduce delivery times.“ Portugal is the closest country in Europe to the United States by ship,” Löwendick explains. Shipments can reach New York in about seven days, compared to longer transit times from other parts of Europe.
This efficiency supports one of the company’ s key selling points: speed.

“ We have a big yard where we can stock billets, and we manage to have short lead times with our supply partners,” Ribeirinho says. Building on a strong network of European suppliers, this allows Böllinghaus Steel to maintain consistent quality while meeting tight deadlines.
Navigating a changing market Despite its success, Böllinghaus Steel operates in an environment marked by uncertainty, from shifting trade policies to evolving customer demands. Yet the company views these challenges as opportunities.“ We don’ t see it as pressure. We see challenges. And we want to be challenged,” Kouba says.
That perspective extends to how Böllinghaus Steel engages with its partners. By actively seeking feedback and maintaining open communication, the company ensures that it continues to evolve alongside its customers.
Transparency is also a key part of this approach.“ We are always an open book,” Kouba explains. Whether delivering good news or addressing delays, clear communication helps build trust and strengthen relationships over time.
Future strategy As Böllinghaus Steel looks to the future, its strategy remains rooted in adaptability and innovation.
