INEOS Acetyls and Sandpiper Chemicals collaborate on low-carbon methanol project in Texas
INEOS Acetyls and Sandpiper Chemicals, LLC announce a strategic collaboration in support of Sandpiper’ s low carbon methanol production facility in Texas City, Texas. INEOS will become a shareholder and an anchor customer of Sandpiper.
The low carbon methanol facility will be located on INEOS’ s Texas City site, utilizing the region’ s established petrochemical infrastructure, deep-water port access, and skilled workforce. Sandpiper’ s plant is designed to produce approximately 1.1 million metric tons per annum( MTPA) of low carbon methanol using natural gas with carbon capture, targeting a carbon intensity significantly below the conventional methanol production benchmark. Up to 300,000 tons per year will be consumed by INEOS for its acetic acid production.
The project is expected to enter the front-end engineering and design( FEED) phase in Q2 2026, with a final investment decision( FID) targeted for 2027 and first production anticipated in 2030. Total project investment is estimated at approximately USD 1.7 billion.
Dow selects Worley to provide FEED services for Path2Zero project in Fort Saskatchewan
Worley has been selected by Dow to provide front-end engineering design( FEED) services under an engineering, procurement, and construction management( EPCM) contract for the cogeneration component of Dow’ s Path2Zero project in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Dow’ s Path2Zero expansion project will create the world’ s first net-zero emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site with respect to Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Worley’ s scope includes a brownfield installation of a cogeneration facility with integrated post-combustion carbon capture that is expected to be operational towards the end of 2030.
Path2Zero is a flagship project for Dow and the industry, aiming to decarbonize 20 percent of Dow’ s global ethylene capacity and triple the site’ s polyethylene output. The facility will produce 3.2 million metric tonnes of certified low- to zero-carbon polyethylene and derivatives annually.
