Nippon Steel Obtained SuMPO EPD Certifications for Pipes and Tubes Used in Chemical Industry and for Boilers
Tenaris Increases Its Capabilities in Vaca Muerta with Third Fracking Set
Following a USD $ 110 million investment, Tenaris is strengthening its fracking capabilities in Argentina with the addition of a third hydraulic fracking set for Vaca Muerta, one of the world’ s largest shale gas reservoirs.
The investment includes a fracking set with 28 pumps, a coiled tubing set with auxiliary equipment, and the acquisition of a gas compressor plant, eight trucks for gas delivery to the site, and a decompression plant to supply the pumps.
This equipment will expand Tenaris’ s well completion capacity in Vaca Muerta, following the acquisition of its first hydraulic fracking set in 2020 and a second in 2024. Tenaris is now the third-largest
provider of fracking services in the local market.
The new fracking set will feature 28 pumps and 70,000 horsepower. It will also incorporate DGB- Tier IV technology, which improves efficiency by using compressed natural gas( CNG) as a power source, reducing diesel consumption by 70 %. This will be the first equipment in the country with this technology and is expected to be operational in early 2026.
Additionally, Tenaris is building a new service center in Vista Alegre, located midway between Añelo and Neuquén City, to support Vaca Muerta’ s growth. The facility is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2025.
In order to meet its customers’ need to promote carbon neutrality, Nippon Steel Corporation(“ Nippon Steel”) newly obtained five“ SuMPO EPD” * 1( former name: EcoLeaf) certifications * 2 based on the SuMPO Environmental Labeling Program by the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization, a General Incorporated Association(“ SuMPO”), for its steel pipes and tubes used in the chemical industry and for boilers.
In recent years, there has been a growing demand from customers for decarbonization and new energy, such as nuclear power generation and high-pressure hydrogen applications. Nippon offers multiple lineups through NSCarbolexTM Solution * 3, its highly functional products / solution technology that contributes
to CO 2 emission reductions in society.
SuMPO EPD is an Environmental Product Declaration( EPD) certification system that uses the Life Cycle Assessment( LCA) methodology to show quantitative environmental information covering the entire lifecycle of a product, from resource extraction to manufacturing, distribution, use, discarding, and recycling. This certification system makes it possible for Nippon Steel’ s customers to objectively assess the environmental impact in the lifecycle of steel pipes and tubes used in the chemical industry and for boilers as well as easier to accommodate the likes of the move to display CO 2 emissions on procured goods, which will be a subject of attention going forward.
