Conference Company Participants Profile
Roger Francis , Nickel Institute , UK Dr Francis has broad experience in the fields of marine corrosion , desalination , sour oil and gas corrosion , mineral processing , and the chemical and process industries . He has published over 100 technical papers , particularly on copper alloys and duplex stainless steels . He has written six books and jointly edited three others , the most recent being on corrosion in desalination plants . Dr Francis has served as the NACE ( now AMPP ) European Area director and was made a NACE Fellow in 2005 for his work in marine corrosion . In 2014 he received the T J Hull Award for his work in publications . In 2012 he set up his own corrosion consultancy business , RF Materials , and also works as a consultant to the Nickel Institute .
Julien Pellé , French Corrosion Institute , France Dr Julien Pellé is a marine corrosion research engineer . His PhD , in collaboration between the CEA ( Saclay , France ) and Sorbonne Université ( Paris ), focused on the impact of Fe ( III ) on the autocatalytic processes of nitric acid reduction , which significantly impacts corrosion of Si-rich stainless steels in hot and concentrated media . For his postdoctoral research position at UBO ( Brest , France ) he studied atmospheric corrosion , which strongly impacts electronic components and equipment in the Caribbean islands .
Dirk Engelberg , The University of Manchester , UK Dr Engelberg is a Professor in Materials Performance and Corrosion , the Metallurgy and Corrosion theme lead , line manager of the hard materials group , and fellowship mentor for early career academics . He holds a PhD in Metallurgy & Materials Science , an MSc in Corrosion Science and Engineering ( UMIST ), and graduated from Aalen University ( Germany ) with a Dipl . -Ing .( FH ) in Surface Engineering and Materials Technology . Before joining academia , he started his career with an apprenticeship as an electroplater in the chemical process industry . Dirk ’ s research group combines innovative ideas in materials characterisation with metallurgy / materials engineering and electrochemistry .
Jan Y Jonsson , Outokumpu Stainless AB , Sweden Jan Y Jonsson is a senior specialist in physical metallurgy at the R & D center in Avesta of Outokumpu Stainless AB . Jan holds a master of science in physics from Umeå University and has worked with stainless steels since 1987 . Jan has worked with physical metallurgy of high alloyed stainless steels and relating properties . Much of the work has involved exploring the world of metallography . He has through the years been involved in development projects both for duplex and austenitic stainless steels .
