Two new members of staff have been appointed by South West Energy Centre: Oliver Laity, who has taken on the role of Business Engagement Officer, and Brad Lewis, who will be doing a similar role with the local community as Community Engagement Officer.
Oliver has joined the College with a varied background in marketing and project management in the tourism, local government, and green sectors, which will help him in his diverse role in engaging with local businesses: “I am a keen advocate of the South West and am looking to make a difference in the region where I was born and raised, particularly with regard for its reputation and selling the best of the South West.
“My job is to get local businesses involved in the project . I will be looking at the supply side – that means businesses in the building services, plumbing, and electrical field - to encourage their interest in diversifying into renewables. On the demand side, I’ll be talking to businesses more broadly about how they can make energy efficiencies, saving their businesses money and reducing their carbon footprint.”
Brad Lewis, the new Community Engagement Officer, was born and bred in Torbay and has worked at the College for nearly ten years, supporting local businesses and establishing links with the College. His background includes working with the hospitality sector, telemarketing and manufacturing.
He says of his new role: “I’ll be getting heavily involved with local community groups, voluntary organisations and community leaders to promote

the use of the South West Energy Centre in helping them to understand low carbon technologies and how we can support them in adopting new practices to save both money and energy as this becomes a key activity over the next few years.
