From the Pulpit – unpacking the shopping
In between visiting, writing reports, speaking to journalists, and fitting in the weekly shop this morning, I was wondering what on earth to write about for the monthly letter of wisdom from the pulpit( hahaha). As I was in a huge supermarket perhaps I could write about consumerism? Or perhaps I could write about the art of multi-tasking, i. e. having a Godly question and answer session with a stranger whilst choosing the veg – I was wearing my clergy clothes and they seem to signal that it is ok to ask me random questions. But, as I sat at my computer to write, absolutely none of the above would splurge onto the screen from my mind.
And then I remembered two simple and significant things from this day.
1) A wonderful conversation with a charming person about how we both experience Gods presence in our life – which was differently, but significantly
2) A woman in the car park wearing a jumper bearing the words‘ Make it simple but significant’
Put the two together and God has wisdom to share.
Be still and know that I am God, Psalm 46:10
No matter how God appears in your life, no matter if God has a
3 face for you to see, like a friend, or that God for you is the remote creator who gives comfort; what matters is that you understand God is with you.
None of us has the same thoughts about God, ask a million people and you will get a million answers, similar maybe but not one the same- unless they quote the creeds. And we cannot tell how our closest friend or spouse reacts within when receiving the elements of communion or praying. It is between them and God. All we can be are witnesses to their outward presence day to day. Are they behaving in a Godly way, are they believing in what they do during gathered services on a Sunday, or which ever day they attend worship? Do they seem belong to the Kingdom of God? Believe, Behave, belong, or Behave, belong, believe. Or Belong,
believe, behave😊 it is totally up to you how you and God work together. It is as simple as that, and as significant as that too.
Every blessing at this Easter season- Hallelujah He is risen
