Vestry Report
The Vestry met on Tuesday 6 June 2017 and the agenda only contained two
items for discussion, finance and buildings.
The meeting opened and closed in prayer.
Thanks were given to all who go about their work to maintain the smooth
running of St Oswald’s, the upkeep of the inside and outside of our buildings
so that the congregation and community can see a “live” church.
The balance sheets were scrutinised line by line and discussed at length by
all present to ensure all had a better understanding of our income and
expenditure.
As the singing advert says, “go compare” and a Vestry member offered to
take on the task to compare all the relevant charges to see if costs can be
reduced.
Debate took place about the control of the heating and when it should be
turned off for summer. The Vestry will keep our building users up to date
with the details.
Rev Lesley-ann reaffirmed she had been ordained a Pioneer Priest and was
doing that job full-time. The aim of a Pioneer Priest was to work alongside
businesses, communities and other faiths in the locality as well as the
congregation of St Oswald’s.
Items for the future:
•
•
Review fundraising and what St Oswald’s could do?
The Servers Guild Service in November.
Reminder that gifts can be made to the Flower Fund in memory of loved
ones. Please speak to Dorothy if you would want to remember those who
have gone before in a floral arrangement visible on a Sunday morning.
There may only have been two topics for “full” discussion and clarification
but the meeting still managed to go on for almost two hours. It was hoped
that any worries were allayed.
Due to the holiday period, the next meeting of the Vestry will be Tuesday 12
September 2017 at 7:30pm unless a Sunday Holy Huddle is required.
