New Adventures in the Summer Months Maybe this glorious May sunshine has made you consider a holiday, but anything in excess of 24 hours is too much to cope with. Have you thought about a day trip to some of the magnificent sights within a bus or train ride of St Oswald’s? Whitelee Wind Farm Moor Road near Eaglesham. Its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity, enough to power just under 300,000 homes. This is the UK's largest onshore windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor just 20 minutes from central Glasgow. There is no direct bus service to the windfarm but the No 4a bus which comes up Victoria Road and passes the New Victoria Hospital through Ledard & Cartside Roads into Holmlea Rd and onwards to Hill Drive, Eaglesham. This is the terminus and as close as public transport goes. Make rest of the journey by taxi. Visitor Centre is open Monday – Sunday 10:00 – 17:00 The Café serves a selection of foodstuffs and is surrounded with large glass windows and an external deck that provides stunning views of the windfarm. Onsite Bus Tours are available to allow you to get up close to the turbines or join one of the guided tours. There is also a small gift shop, exhibition and learning hub for the children.
