FROM THE UNTIDY DESK A foggy view point Looking out of my study window I can see the houses and trees through the mist but very little else; and I am reflecting that the view today is rather like life. Last October Ashley and myself came to Glasgow for a week, we didn’t tell anyone that we were coming up, we wanted to form our own decision about possibly making a giant leap of faith. We stayed in hotel in the middle of the city, and after the first night of being lost in the rain, not being able to find the car park and getting soaked walking back to the hotel with our bags, and after stepping over people with addictions in the dark back streets and the stairway of the car park; we unexpectedly fell in love with the place. However then we decided to drive to St Oswald’s and have a walk around the area. It took us nearly an hour to get there due to a fire burning just off of the motor way and making visibility poor, so when we did arrive I was grumpy (it happens). Ash got out of the car and I stayed put. He walked to the little news agent on the corner and I prayed to God. ‘Father how am I going to do this. Who do I know here, who will say would you like a cuppa and a chat? Where will I walk the dogs, and where will we live? Father I want to say OK but I am worried we will be alone’. There was a tap on the car window and a lady was standing there in the drizzle. ‘Are you ok hen, can I help you?’ I got out of the car and said I was thinking of moving here with my husband and dogs, ‘You will love it, we are a friendly lot and there is always someone around to have a talk to and have a cuppa tea with”. Another lady spoke up ‘there is a park for the dogs too, you don’t look like you’re sure yet, take a walk and if you can look past the litter you’ll be ok, it’s ok here’. ‘what’s the church like, have you any idea?’ I asked.
