ST. MODWEN | A GENERATION OF REGENERATION | IT’S ALL ACADEMIC
The Bay Campus for Swansea University
It’s all academic
St. Modwen’s founder, Sir Stanley Clarke, did not
have an upbringing where he could pursue a full
education. His father Victor, a brewery worker,
was an invalid suffering from tuberculosis, while
his mother Mabel was employed as a maid at the
local manor house, so he took his very first job at
the local butcher to help support his family when
he was only nine years old. At 16 he had to leave
Burton Technical High School to start work and so
embarked on a plumbing apprenticeship.
With this at its core, St. Modwen has continued to
promote opportunities for education. It has fostered
strong relationships with the education sector.
The major regeneration projects and substantial
residential schemes that are at the core of the
company feature strong community principles,
especially in delivering schools, colleges and more
recently a university campus.
