Paperworks Inc.
Paperworks is one of the community groups that held an information stall at the
Community Diversity Festival. It is a local Not For Profit Social Enterprise
dedicated to social inclusion across all boundaries. It is co-located with the Ted
Noffs Foundation at 350 Antill Street. The Paperworks Website tells us much
about the organisation:
Vision:
Mission:
Social inclusion through community art
Bringing people together through recycling, hand print- and papermaking
Our Values:
Respect for people: creating a safe space where everyone’s contribution is valued
Respect for the environment: Paperworks uses recycled denim jeans
and natural fibres.
Building community: across all boundaries of age, culture, education,
social status
Teamwork
Being creative and having fun
Through recycling denim jeans into paper, Paperworks people-centred and ecofriendly social enterprise provides part-time employment to help socially marginalized people increase their community participation.
Around 80% of denim jeans end up in landfill, but Paperworks recycles jeans
made out of 100% cotton into paper! Each sheet is unique and handmade by one
of their trained artisans.
Paperworks also creates papers using locally harvested plant fibre. Their
embossed and printed products are designed and manufactured in-house using
fine arts printing paper.
When people buy a Paperworks product, they help provide persons with otherwise limited opportunities with an enjoyable artistic pursuit and meaningful
commercial engagement.
Paperworks has unfunded projects rearing to take off. Your contribution can
make the difference. For further information check their Website:
www.paperworks.org.au/. Or email them: [email protected]. Or phone
them: 0451 681 978.
