A sense of security and safety is important for vulnerable people and this will become increasingly important as residents ' age in place '. Financially , the lodge is largely self-supporting with residents ' contributions , which are tied to a given percentage of the Disability Support Pension , covering all household costs . Mutual support , with residents helping and supporting each other , is designed to have both financial and social benefits .
We believe that Ross Walker Lodge has the right ingredients for success . It is established under the patronage of the Uniting Church ; it will operate under UnitingCare ; we expect that residents will receive appropriate care and support from the ACT Government - Community Services Directorate ( formerly Disability ACT ) as and when required ; it is located in the grounds of St Margaret ' s , adjacent to Holy Cross and just across the road from Holy Rosary ; residents will have access to Stepping Stones For Life activities ; and it is located in the suburb of Hackett , which has a reputation for being a friendly and supportive community .
The extent to which the lodge will be successful depends primarily upon the way it is managed and resourced . A large responsibility rests upon the shoulders of St Margaret ' s , UnitingCare , the ACT Community Services Directorate , the Management Committee , the families and , indeed , the residents themselves . The building of the house is now complete . The building of the home is just beginning . It is a challenge we should all embrace with enthusiasm and confidence .
