Remembering Eileen
One of our nonagenarians, Eileen Rope completed her life journey on 17 February 2017. The daughter of a brass founder and his homemaker wife, Eileen Davey was born in London, England on 10 February 1920. Together with her husband, Jim, and two sons, Brian and Alan, Eileen migrated to Australia as a £ 10 pom in 1950. Their daughter, Jill, was born the following year. The family moved to Canberra in 1960 and Eileen became a part of our lives at St Margaret’ s following the closure of Reid Methodist church in 2006. In recent years, Eileen was unable to attend services, but continued her connection with us by attending some special events and also the monthly Holy Communion offered at Goodwin Ainslie chapel by our Minister Chris. A service to celebrate Eileen’ s life on 23 February was attended by 44 members of her extended family and many others. We give thanks for Eileen’ s life.
