Pastoral Prayers An extract from the pastoral prayers on 10 July: “Lord God, within our own country Australia we have followed the results of voting in our recent Federal election this week. We have seen that high numbers of our fellow citizens, including many past migrants, have voted for candidates with extreme racist views and policies, including some who are either unaware of their own racism or who seem to genuinely believe that their views are not racist. We weep for our country. At the same time, we have elected a number of this country’s indigenous people, including our first ever indigenous woman in the House of Representatives. We are very glad that some indigenous Australians will be part of our Federal democratic decision-making processes. We rejoice for them and their country.” (If there are particular matters you would like to have included in the pastoral prayers at worship services, please tell the person listed in the pew sheet as being rostered to do the prayers each week or write the matters in the prayer book as you enter the church for a service.) Contributions Wanted All members of St Margaret’s and the broader Hackett-DownerWatson community are invited to contribute articles and photographs about things that have happened or are going to happen at the St Margaret’s/Holy Cross complex or in the local community. Articles about members of the community’s own involvements in things of interest to others in the community may also be submitted for potential publication. The deadline for material for the next issue is 19 August, with that issue being published on 12 August. Material should be given to the editor Brian Rope or to Lynda at the church office. It may be handwritten or typed. It may be posted, emailed or personally delivered. The Editor reserves the right to edit, or even not use, material. St Margaret’s News 4 July 2016
