Community Diversity Festival
In August of recent years St. Margaret’s Uniting has celebrated the disability community
through a Morning of Celebration which has focussed on the Ross Walker Lodge and
Stepping Stones for Life communities.
This year, on Saturday 29 August, we are planning a Community Diversity Festival to
celebrate the breadth of the communities of north Canberra, with groups included involving
youth, older persons, people from different cultures, people of different abilities and people
involved in the arts and other activities. The plan is that the day will consist of information
stalls, performances and food representing our diverse and multicultural city running from
11 am to 3 pm on our site.
Dr Andrew Leigh – the Member for Fraser – has kindly agreed to open the Festival at
1.30 pm and to speak on the importance of diversity, community and social capital.
One of the key aspects of the day will be Storytelling Circles, in which different groups will be
presenting stories about their organisations and activities. Three storytelling sessions will be
held, at 11 am, 1.45 pm and 2.30 pm, with a choice of three storytelling circles in each
session. It is envisaged these sessions will not only inform the community about each group’s
activities, but also provide encouragement for others seeking to develop community activities,
and an opportunity for networking between different groups.
There will also be a service of celebration and thanksgiving the following morning in the
church, followed by refreshments in the hall.
All are welcome to attend on either or both days. Any person or group interested in
participating in the Festival in any way should, in the first instance, contact the church office on
6248 0282.
Combined St Margaret’s Luncheon with Holy Cross Anglicans
Sunday 26th July 12.30 pm. A wonderful new opportunity to strengthen our cooperating
relationship. There will be good food, opportunities for conversation, mixing and fun.
The Future-Makers: Zero Carbon Canberra Launch
On Friday 14 August and Saturday 15 August, the Future-Makers: Zero Carbon
Canberra model will be launched as part of a rich interactive display that brings
together the latest research, technologies and actions that support the Canberra
Region to become and go beyond a ‘zero carbon’ energy profile.
