Inner North Pilgrimage
Starting on the final Sunday in 2019 and continuing through until
Australia Day 2020, members of St Margaret’s went on a pilgrimage of
sorts, attending weekly worship services in other inner North Uniting
churches.
The pilgrimage began at St Columba’s in Braddon with worship led by
Rev Miriam Parker-Lacey. First up in the New Year we joined the City
church’s traditional and Toe Talatalanoa (Tongan) congregations, where
Miriam again was leading, this time together with Rev Dr Paul Chalson.
Then it was St Ninian’s in Lyneham, where Rev Dr Neil Millar conducted
the service. The following week, the pilgrims went to O’Connor, where
Rev Bret Turner led the service. Then, finally, we came home bringing
other pilgrims (mostly from St Columba’s) with us for a service led by
Chris Lockley.
Each worship experience was different - a strong traditional Presbyteri-
an influence at St Columba’s, a quite different approach at O’Connor.
The lengths of sermons varied considerably. The fellowship shared
over refreshments each week was great, with varying amounts and
styles of food presented. It was good to have friends from the Holy
Cross congregation greet us on Australia Day with the words ‘Welcome
home’.
This is the second year that members of St Margaret’s congregation
have done this. If you have any thoughts about how it went or whether
the practice should or should not continue, please speak with any mem-
ber of Church Council - Anne & Denis Wilkes, Margaret Hunt, Beverley
Clarke, John Goss, John Bell, Robyn Swadling, Brian Rope or Chris
Lockley.
