Tour of Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks : the first International Peace Park
Besides the fantastic scenery , one of the main reasons we chose this tour was to see ( and stay in !!) the lodges and hotels built Swiss Chalet style in the period between 1905 and 1925 . Several were built by the Great Northern Railway to lure tourists from the East away from Europe to the West Coast and beyond .
Glacier Park Lodge is an easy walk from the Amtrak rail station . Which is good because those whole trees holding up the roof were brought by rail from the Pacific Northwest , while maple boards for the floor came from the East coast - a meeting of east and west .
