Farewell to
On Sunday 15 April, Rev’ d Erica Mathieson, the much-loved Rector of Holy Cross Anglican Church and great friend to St Margaret’ s Uniting Church, conducted her final service of worship at Holy Cross, bringing an end to almost ten years in her role. St Margaret’ s abandoned its own service on that day and its congregation was well represented at the Holy Cross service which was followed by the taking of a group photo( of those who could fit) on the front steps, then a morning tea and speeches in the hall.
The joint Holy Cross / St Margaret’ s choir“ Good Faith” sang during the service and again at the morning tea. They included ad lib“ calls” of blessing to Erica and Ray-O in their rendition of the Kenyan gathering song“ Bless the Lord”.
St Margaret’ s Minister, Rev Chris Lockley, and Council Chairperson, John Goss, both spoke and presented Erica and her husband Ray Williamson with gifts of a book and flowers.
Erica and Ray will retire to Waverton in Sydney and plan an extended trip later this year touring what Holy Cross Parish Chairman, Tony Jordan, cheekily referred to as“ the fleshpots of Europe”.
Erica has sent the following message in response: Dear Chris, John and all at St Margaret’ s
Thank you for the lovely, kind words at my farewell. It has been such special part of being at Holy Cross to have St Margaret’ s as well. And I have always enjoyed preaching in St Margaret’ s services. People are always intelligently appreciative.
And it has been wonderful working with you both.
Thank you and everyone for the wonderful book of Canberra photos – I’ ve had a look through and they are terrific, and it will be lovely to keep. And also the gorgeous flowers and card – so kindly signed by everyone.
Blessing always to you and St Margaret’ s Erica
