Who We Are About Us SSFL is an innovative support program established by St Margaret’s Uniting Church. It exists to assist people who are ageing, people living with disability and especially families in which ageing parents are caring for an adult family member with a disability. It is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit organisation and non- government organisation (NGO). St Margaret’s role now is primarily conducting, during school terms, weekly music and art activities suitable for people with disabilities. Combined services are held regularly, especially during Easter and Advent, and at Christmas. A committee of both churches meets to organise St Margaret’s is in a covenant partnership with Holy Cross Anglican Church. The two communi- ties share the use of the church, halls, meeting room and kitchen. Combined services are held regularly, especially during Easter and Advent. A committee of both churches meets to organise these services as well as to deal with practical matters such as grounds maintenance and shared costs. A highlight of the cooperation is the combined choir, known as Good Faith, which sings for special services and other occasions. This cooperation is unique in the Canberra region. We also provide parking for students attending the Australian Catholic University campus over the road. On 2 February 1964 at Watson Primary School, the first worship service of the new congregation of the still un-named Presbyterian Church in the Watson and Hackett suburbs was attended by 106 adults and 87 children. What was to become St Margaret’s Uniting Church was born. The church complex is truly blessed with a central position at the “holy roundabout” where Hackett, Watson, Downer and Dickson meet and provides a facility used by many from the community. The site also has become the home of three very success- ful and important community programs initiated by St Margaret’s – Meg’s Toybox, Stepping Stones For Life, and Ross Walker Lodge.
