This month I’d like to talk about the golf events we have coming up now that we’re ramping
up for the great weather! Of course, the second weekend of September will be our Men’s
and Women’s Club Championships. I anticipate about 80 players this year between the men
and women. We are also hosting our Junior Club Championship on Sunday afternoon after
the Club Championship this year, so if you have a son or daughter that would be interested,
please sign-up!
Registration for the Men’s Member-Member opens on August 28th so make sure that you
and your partner are in sync and ready to compete! This year’s Men’s Member-Member will
be the second weekend of October, so there should be plenty of time to sign-up during the
month of September. If you are interested in playing in the event, but don’t have a partner,
please email me directly so that I might be able to help coordinate a partnership!
Lastly, we will be hosting a MEMBER-PRO event on Saturday, September 29th. This is the
same weekend as the 2018 Ryder Cup! Make sure you are able to attend this event as it will
be a Ryder Cup themed game that will not be forgotten.
As the Women’s Clinic finishes a successful month of perfecting
the short game, September will be dedicated to driving the golf
ball with greater distance and accuracy. While a complete short
game proves to be valuable, driving the ball well can allow a player

month we will address the basics including Ball Position, Stance,
Posture, and Tee Height. Once the fundamentals are addressed, we
will take a deeper look at the science behind distance and how we
can improve variables such as Spin Rate and Launch Angle with
the assistance of Trackman Data. While the PGA Tour completes its
Major Championship season for 2018, Brooks Koepka has made one
thing clear: Driving the ball well wins golf tournaments!
With the addition of our Short Game practice facility at St. Johns
Golf and Country Club, and the on-course bunker renovation, this
Fall is going to be the perfect time to look at how well your current
wedges are suited for your game. Often over-looked with respect to
fitting, Wedges may require the most thought and experimentation
when it comes to a proper fitting for an individual game and
course conditions. Loft, lie, bounce, and distance gapping all figure
prominently when developing a complete set of scoring clubs.
Through a short-interview process and a few shots on the range, a
proper fitting can reduce mis-hits, lacking control from bunkers, or
constantly hitting partial wedges.
