LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT WINTER 2019 To members of SJGCC, There is much excitement approaching February with much of our efforts being observed around property. We are pleased with the timing of our two pre-emergent applications throughout the winter. In the next few weeks we will begin utilizing our nursery green, as well as continuing some other key projects. Finishing our pre-emergent application last week, we seem fairly poise in the extent of our winter weed pressure. Any existing weed pressure currently being seen, we feel is very manageable from a post- emergent standpoint. We continue to treat the remainder of existing weed pressure, with intentions of entering spring with little weed pressure. We will begin utilizing our nursery green in the following months, as the nursery green has matured exceptionally and ready for transplantation. Please, excuse our disturbance, as we will be replacing any 419 Bermuda grass contaminations. This process should not affect the quality of greens much but will certainly get better as time continues. Other pre-emergent applications will be taking place in the next couple of weeks on greens, to continue success of eliminating any goose grass pressure that has been seen in in the past. This, as well as continuous fertilizer applications, will ensure a clean, healthy playing surface approaching the growing season. With February being a key time of year from an agronomic standpoint, we are optimistic and very excited in the direction we are heading. With the transplanting project occurring on greens, and other key projects, we hope to continue to improve the golf course as time goes on. Thank You, Andy Maguire Superintendent 6
