HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL UPDATE WINTER 2019 Schedule of Events February February February February February February February February February 1st – Registration opens for 2019 Match Play 3rd – Super Bowl Tournament @ 12:30 PM 11th – Lincoln Memorial University Tournament – Golf Course Unavailable 12th – Limited Tee Times Available 22nd – Limited Tee Times Available 23rd – Casper Cup (Round 1) 24th – Casper Cup (Round 2) 25th – Registration closes for 2019 Match Play 27th – Registration opens for Masters Tournament This month is a great time to introduce two big changes we’ve made to our major events for 2019. The first change is our new tee selection process for the 2019 Member-Guest and the 2019 Member- Member. The second change is the format of competition and tee selection process for the 2019 Match Play. In years past, the Member-Member and Member-Guest has struggled to include golfers that don’t play from the White or Blue tees. After meeting with the Advisory Committee and discussing the different possibilities, we decided to have two sets of tees for these competitions; a combination of the Blue and White tees, and the White and Silver tees for participants 60 years and older. Each combination will have its own unique yardage, slope, and rating. We felt that this was the fairest option for players and hope that this will increase participation for these two events. As for Match Play, the flighting and competition for this event was dragged out in its execution. In order to tighten up and make a more universal competition, a 64-person match play bracket system will be implemented for the men and a 16-person match play bracket will be implemented for the women. We will no longer have an Open, Senior or Super Senior bracket, where each division plays from a separate tee. The 64-person bracket will be made up of Blue, White and Silver tee players with the freedom to play from whichever tee they prefer, even the Gold! Round 1 of the matches will begin March 1st and need to be completed by March 3rd. After that, every round of matches will need to be completed by the following Sunday. There are 5 weekends in March so we will be able to complete 5 rounds of Match Play by the end of the month. As for the Women’s Division, we should have a champion by the end of March. I hope these new changes are welcomed. It’s through the support of our new advisory Committee that these have been implemented so quickly and with the hope of increasing participation in all our events.
