LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
FA L L 2 0 1 8
To the members of SJGCC,
We are in excellent shape going into December, with the recent fertilizer application to the
golf course keeping turf grass healthy and playable going into cooler temperatures. With
the addition of two new practice greens, we expect for conditions on these to improve
as time goes on. Plans for the following weeks include some attention to detail, including
cleaning up some peripheral areas.
Throughout the coming weeks, we plan to concentrate intently on cleaning up all our
native beds. We will accomplish this by first cutting any invasive trees, shrubs, etc. This will
be followed up with a post emergent herbicide supplication to ensure cleanliness in these
beds for some time, as well as clear any obstructions, etc. Some minor tree work will take
place soon in areas such as 7, 14, etc.
In the next few weeks new drainage will be installed as well, i.e. 5, 8, 15, 16, and 18. This
will alleviate some of the puddling on cart paths, as well as repair any damaged drainage
causing washouts in turf. Another preemergent herbicide will be applied in a couple
of weeks. This will be included with some postemergent herbicide to clean up any
withstanding poa annua and/or broadleaf weeds. With all these projects taking place in the
following weeks, we hope to continue to improve the golf course as far as playability and
aesthetically.
