Stillwater parks to get useful upgrades
Finding outdoor fun in the St . Croix Valley is never difficult , but it ’ s about to get a boost as upgrades are made to Stillwater parks .
Stillwater ’ s Parks and Recreation Commission is receiving $ 120,000 to replace two playgrounds in local neighborhood parks : Old Athletic Field , installed in 2002 , and a wooden structure in Washington Square Park , installed in 1996 .
The average life of a playground structure is around 15-20 years , so these parks are due for new play structures , according to the city .
The existing playground structure at Old Athletic Field was installed in 2002 and the existing wooden playground structure at Washington Square Park was installed in 1996 .
There is a standing commitment
to improve accessibility when upgrading or replacing park structures , so these parks will also gain accessible trails , and sand will be replaced with engineered ADA-accessible wood fiber mulch .
The new structures will include multiple slides , swings , climbing bars , obstacle challenges and more .
