Faculty Drama Production “The Battalion” Views from the Front line F rom Midway through Term 1 of 2013, the advertis ement to join the production “T he Battalion” was in the Da ily Notices. It was kind of a last minute decision for me to go to the meeting that had been in the no tices for weeks, where we would hear about the show, the dates and wh at’s expected of us throughout The Ba ttalion. We learnt the story and his tory behind The 28th Maori Battalio n, and it all sounded too exciting not to be St Bernard’s College 2013 recreated, with the help of veteran and globally acclaimed director, Jim Moriarty. Moriarty and partner “B attalion” playwright, Helen PearseOtene , have been in the Maor i Theatre business for decades an d had a very clear image of what the show was to be like. So from then on came the rehearsals, starting on a Wednesday and Thursday after sch ool and Sunday mornings. They later extended to Tuesday an d Saturdays, 59
