that I owe to the student body.
What are your sustainable goals for the Law Society?
My primary goal for the law society is to work with the executive to ensure that the society can function as an independent body. As the faculty of law further expands, I intend to ensure that as a student organization the law society is furnished with all the tools which are necessary to meet the needs of the ever increasing student body. I intend to work with the executive to ensure that the society has a strong administrative footing so that as law becomes an independent faculty, the law society will also be able to function independently.
How do you intend to remedy the challenges faced by the previous steering committee?
Fortunately I have worked on the previous steering committee and I am well aware of the challenges faced by them. In this regard I believe that as a society on the whole we are better equipped to deal with any challenges faced. Any new society will have its teething problems but through a collaborative effort with the faculty administration and with the help and understanding of the student body, I have no doubt that the society will be able to overcome any challenges faced.
How do you think the Law Society can assist the law student?
The possibilities of the law society are endless as its primary function is to assist the student body with any problems that they face. The law society provides a voice to the student body at an administrative and potentially a national level. The law society can also aid in the provision of a more holistic university experience, ensuring that not only the educational needs of the student body are met, but the social needs as well. The secondary function of the law society is to promote integration and cooperation among the students of the faculty of law. We are one faculty and together we can ensure that our university experience is a memorable and enjoyable one.
What can the student body expect from the newly elected executive?
The student body can expect a vibrant group of students who are ready and willing to serve, in the various positions with which they have been elected. The current executive intends to work hard to ensure that the society will be one of, if not the most, enduring societies of the University of the West Indies.
Where do you see the Law Society in the future?
The potential for growth of the law society is endless. The law society will outlast any one executive and any one student body. It is my hope that we set a strong foundation so that whatever heights the society climbs to, it will be on a secure footing. What we build today will be our legacy tomorrow; it is my hope that it is a lasting one.
