FIELD TRIPS
FACILITY TOURS
The SSIP CityWorks interns participated in
numerous facility tours to learn about the City
and County of San Francisco’s water, power, and
sewer systems. Throughout the summer, the interns
toured the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
Headquarters, Southeast Treatment Plant, Treasure
Island Treatment Plant, and other local water, power,
and sewer infrastructure sites.
HETCH HETCHY RESERVOIR OVERNIGHT TRIP
Interns took an overnight trip to Hetch Hetchy inside of Yosemite
National Park. Along the way, stops are made at various parts of
the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir water system: Pulgas Water Temple,
Moccasin Dam and Powerhouse, and ultimately the O’Shaughnessy
Dam at the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. At each stop, the interns
are informed of processes at each section of the system. At the
O’Shaughnessy Dam, interns and chaperones are
housed in cabins and bunkhouses and have
bonding time while star gazing in the evening.
In the morning, everyone takes a walk over the
beautiful O’Shaughnessy Dam and around the
reservoir. The trip is informative and really brings
the internship full circle; being able to see where
San Francisco water comes from is definitely a
site to see.
