SEWER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM | Grey. Green. Clean.
THOUGHT
LEADERSHIP
Throughout the year, the SSIP team has sought to raise the standard for leadership
and public outreach across the nation.
While staff participated in less national conferences
in 2018, our then director, Karen Kubick chaired
and shared San Francisco’s strategies for resilience
at the 6th EWA/JSWA/WEF joint conference “The
Resilience of the Water Sector” in Munich, Germany.
As a trustee of the Water Environment Federation
(WEF) who co-hosted the conference with the
European Water Association (EWA) and Japan
Sewage Works Association (JSWA), Karen presented
our Urban Watershed Assessment, Triple Bottom
Line tool, and Climate Change
Adaptation framework which
were all very well received. We
presented on Sustainability to the
Chinese American Environmental
Professional Association although
unfortunately only in SF, not in
China.
Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), and
Professional Environmental Marketing Association
(PEMA). On the peer side we participated in
roundtable discussions and shared presentations
with the cities of Portland and Seattle on Integrated
Planning and Decision-Making and shared outreach
tactics with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer
Authority.
During the year much of our
engagement was concentrated
on sharing information with our
peers and keeping the industry
informed of upcoming contracting
opportunities. Our industry
engagements included making
our annual trips to: American
Council of Engineering Companies
(ACEC), Construction Management
Association of America (CMAA),
North Point Outfall Rehabilitation Project - Partnering Event
