SSIP Annual Report 2018
Green Infrastructure Stormwater Management Projects
The SFPUC is moving closer to the City’s goal of managing one billion gallons of
stormwater with green infrastructure by 2050.
In the summer of 2017 the
Holloway Green Street in the
Ingleside neighborhood was
completed. Holloway marked
the first green infrastructure
project funded through the State
Revolving Loan Fund Program,
which provides low-cost financing
that saves ratepayer dollars,
and the first porous concrete
installation in the City. You can
view the ribbon cutting and
demonstration of the first use of
permeable concrete in the public
right-of-way here.
Construction was also completed
on the Chinatown Living Alley on
Spofford Street, the Wiggle Phase
2 in the Lower Haight, Phase I of
the Sunset Boulevard Greenway,
and the Visitacion Valley Green
Nodes. These projects feature
rain gardens and permeable
pavement to manage stormwater
through infiltration, reducing the
burden on the sewer system and
improving neighborhoods.
As these green projects are
completed, educational signage
will be installed to inform the
community about the history
of the watershed, explain the
function of green stormwater
management technology, identify
the natural habitat and species
within that neighborhood, and
encourage us all to be “rain
guardians” by committing to
keeping these neighborhood
assets clean and functional. In
2019 Construction is expected to
begin on Phase 2 of the Sunset
Boulevard Greenway and Baker
Beach Green Street.
Mission & Valencia
Streets Green Gateway
and Holloway Green
Street help beautify
their neighborhoods
and manage
stormwater.
