SEWER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM | Grey. Green. Clean.
North Point Wet Weather Facility
Located near Fisherman’s Wharf, the North Point Wet Weather Facility (NPF) only
operates when it’s raining, and the SEP does not have capacity to handle the
combined stormwater and sewage flows.
The North Point Wet Weather Facility and associated
facilities are a critical part of wastewater operations,
and due to aging and the harsh marine environment,
require upgrades. Completed in February 2018, the
North Point Facility Outfall Rehabilitation Project
successfully removed sediment buildup inside and
outside the outfall structures, and relined/installed
corrosion protection systems on pipes and structural
supports. Throughout construction crews accessed
pipes via manholes in the sidewalk and from barges
in the Bay off Pier 33 and 35, all while monitoring
and maintaining vibration and noise levels within
City’s ordinances to reduce the impact to residents
and businesses. The North Shore Wet Weather Pump
Station Project, anticipated to begin construction
in late 2019, will replace four dry weather pumps
with larger units providing redundancy during wet
weather, upgrade electrical distributed control
systems (DCS), address corrosion and more.
