EDF Energy is the UK largest generator of low carbon electricity and is the majority owner of NNB Genera on( HPC) Limited, responsible for construc ng, commissioning and opera ng Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
At Hinkley Point C we ' re building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new genera on of nuclear power sta ons in Britain providing zero-carbon electricity for around six million homes. The planned twin unit UK EPR is capable of genera ng 3,260MW of secure, low carbon electricity. The electricity generated by Hinkley Point C will save 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, or 600 million tonnes over its expected lifespan. Hinkley Point C ' s contribu on to figh ng climate change means that during its 60 years of opera on it will have a large, posi ve impact on the environment. Sustainability and environmental protec on are key features in the construc on itself. Hinkley Point C is demonstra ng the power of new nuclear in driving growth- genera ng thousands of jobs and a £ 13 billion pound boost for the Bri sh economy. The EPR reactor design has been approved by ONR and the Environment Agency, through the Generic design Assessment, Nuclear Site Licensing and environmental permi ng regimes. This means it sa sfies Britain ' s robust safety and environmental protec on standards. Hinkley Point C ' s sister plant, Sizewell C, is under construc on in Suffolk having received planning permission in 2022 and final investment in 2025.
