Dr. Mohamud Verjee

Dr. Mohamud Verjee shares with us the benefit of his many years of experience treating patients and teaching medical students.

"Goals you have are just an empty quota unless you tie them directly to your overall vision and ambition. To achieve them, you have to plan – months at first, then a year or two, then as much as five years, if not a decade or two."

"Never be impressed by anyone who asks you 'What are your strengths?' and then goes on to the anticipated second part 'And what are your weaknesses?' Be honest, polite, but firm. Be prepared to answer positively. My reflection on this question is that the second part is outdated. I ask the question in a different way. 'What are your strengths?' The second part of my question is 'And which ones are your strongest?' I think that is much better information, but you should know what they are with confidence."

"How do you become motivated? Most likely, by role models and people you can identify with, and like what they do. What about inspiration? Where does that come from? It comes from inside yourself, like a fire burning and reaching all parts of your body. It is something you have to feel, not do."

"We are all like caterpillars, waiting for our transformation into something unique like a butterfly. When you see one, in all its brilliant colors, think of its evolution."
