WSSCC (Water, Supply & Sanitation Collaborative
Council) on multiple stopovers where the area of
focus was breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation, and developing menstrual health and
empowering women in areas where menstruation

amount of resources as in this year’s Volvo Ocean
Race. SCA took the opportunity to offer an all-female team that high level of support and provide
material and training opportunities in order for the
sailors to showcase competitiveness in the field.
The 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race had a total of
11 stopover cities in 11 different countries where
each team gets to host events of their choice. The
SCA stopovers events created a channel for young
people to meet and interact with this inspirational
team and talk about topics that span further than
sailing and sports.
In the 7th leg of the competition, the SCA team
made history by becoming the first all-female team
to win a leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in over 25
years. The success has been all over the world, and
in Swedish media the hopes for further opportunities such as this are high. In the male dominated
field of sailing the need for financial support is high
Not only has this been a great platform for the corporation, but it has helped move women’s sailing
forward on a global scale. n
