Sprocket Science | Page 4

A quick heads up everyone - I've seen a couple of installations in the last week or two that have made me wonder if I've not been clear enough about nozzle placement on the rear sprocket.?

Whether you use a single or a twin feed the principle is the same - you need to place the tip of the nozzle on the side of the rear sprocket, but not just anywhere- however convenient this may seem during installation.

The tip(s) need to be near to the area of the sprocket where it meshes with the chain so that the oil you are placing on the side of the sprocket is flung off by centrifugal force onto the chain when it meshes with the sprocket.

In practical terms, if we think of the rear sprocket as a clock face (assuming the sprocket is on the left hand side of the bike) then its ok to place the nozzle at the 7 O'clock position or even at 8 O'clock if the nozzle tip is placed further inboard away from the sprocket teeth.

But if you place the nozzle at 9, 10 or 11 O'clock then most of the oil is going to get thrown off before it ever reaches the chain, leaving you with a messy bike and a dry chain.

Ride Safe!

Some-flings on my mind!
