p reserving the historic landscape
By Dulany Morison
My family has been known to take preservation to the extreme , applying it to almost everything . We campaign for preservation policies one day and engage in heated debates over the virtues of adjusting furniture in our home the next . I have been party to many an animated conversation regarding subject matter as seemingly frivolous as moving a chair , “ You can ’ t move that chair ! Your great-great-grandmother sat in that chair every evening for 40 years !” This is not an exaggeration , and little has changed today , but such considerations , when combined with our actively living in the old homes , has rewarded us with the ability to experience “ living history .”
