The Community Speaks — FCFC Listens
On April 27 , a group of 36 people enjoyed a casual dinner and some conversation time to discuss the needs of our community . Attendees included families served by FCFC , faith-based benevolence , school bus drivers , physician , representatives from the Latino community , high school student , single mom , night school students , school counselor , local Walmart Community Outreach , FCFC Board & staff . The event was held at the beautiful Watkins Barn and Venue .
After a very lively and open discussion among those attending , the following issues were identified by the group :
Transportation Activities for kids and families Distribution of food to people Awareness of resources Affordable housing Job Training
Communication Gap Mental Health ( access to services , and post covid needs ) Adult education Infrastructure Parking , Internet , Road repair
Cliff effect Systemic Poverty Tourist Focus of area Middle Class – where are they ? Daycare / After school care Parental non-involvement
Following the Civic Dinner , FCFC formed a Strategy Team . The Strategy Team chose to work on Mental Health issues . The activities from the Team are reported on Page 5 . The Civic Dinner will become a part of the Annual Planning process , with a Civic Dinner being held in late fall to assess the issues . These issues will then go to the Family Connection Collaborative and the Board of Directors . Whatever activities or programs that are discussed in the Strategy Team after the Civic Dinner will transfer to FCFC ’ s Annual Plan which is effective July 1-June 30 each year .
Many thanks to Watkins Barn & Venue for providing complimentary use of the facility for our Civic Dinner .
