“This really depends on the types of books and writing styles you like. Books are like fingerprints – no two books are alike - and what one person likes may not appeal to someone else. That’s the great thing about libraries: there really is something for everyone. However, fantasy is probably the biggest genre right now and some of my favourite authors are Sarah Dessen, Marie Lu, Marissa Meyer, Veronica Roth, Sarah Maas, Leigh Bardugo, and Kendare Blake.”

Librarian Interview

by Katie Chen

1. What made you want to become a librarian? (answered by Rachel Rosenberg)

“First of all, I come from a very bookish family. My dad and I often went to the library together when I was young, and it made the library seem very special. I also enjoy writing and it seemed like a great idea for a writer to work somewhere that gives her access to books!”

2. What are some pros and cons of being a librarian? (answered by Cindy Kloos)

“In my opinion, there are more pros than cons to being a librarian One of the best things is the access to all the new books. Since we are the ones purchasing the titles, we often know about books even before they are published and we often discover titles before they become popular. I also like the variety of work we do. No two days are the same and there is always a lot to do. The other major pro is the practical side of the profession. It is a well paid and secure job with pension and health benefits. The biggest con is the lack of respect the profession gets. People think that librarians just read and find people books all day, which is not true. All the reading we do is in our own time and our jobs are much more complex.”

3. What are some books, authors, or genres you could recommend from the library? (answered by Cindy Kloos)
