Meet Magister Swanger

Chocolate chip cookie dough is his favorite ice cream because "every bite is different and it's so versatile."
How long have you been involved in the JCL?
Mr. Swanger has been involved in the JCL for 15 years total (6 years as a student, 3 years as a college student, and 6 years as a teacher).
What role do you play in your school’s chapter?
He is the primary JCL sponsor for Thales Academy Rolesville and the advanced certamen coach.
What made you want to become involved in the NCJCL state executive board?
Mr. Swanger's love for certamen motivated him to become the new state Certamen Coordinator.
What are your future plans as Certamen Coordinator?
He wants to “develop a framework for local tournaments” and develop materials for anyone to host a tournament. Mr. Swanger hopes this will increase participation and interest in the game.
What is your favorite part of JCL?
Certamen is hands down Mr. Swanger's favorite part of JCL. Since he was an athlete, he loves competition. He also believes that Latin gave him access to "cultural treasures" that are not very widely available.
What are some of your hobbies outside of being Certamen Coordinator and a teacher?
Some of Mr. Swanger's hobbies are reading, outdoor activities, and sports.
