Dear Friends, 2020 vision means you can see clearly and in focus. The vision for the Glenview Park District is certainly clear: a community in which everyone enjoys happiness, health, and an appreciation for the environment on a daily basis. Our talented staff strives every day to make that vision a reality for everyone in our district. Focus on Sustainability • We are committed to a sustainable and healthy environment. At the end of 2019, the Glenview Park District took steps to ensure that our facilities are now 100% powered by renewable wind energy. Investing in renewable energy reduces the Park District’s production of greenhouse gases, which have been shown to be a major cause of climate change. • We are committed to continually finding sustainable and green solutions in our existing facilities, parks and operation. In recent years, the Park District has transitioned gas vehicles in its fleet to propane and has installed LED lighting at both Community Park West and Flick Park. These actions take our Park District to the next level of environmental awareness and show our dedication to good stewardship of natural resources and the environment. Grove Interpretive Center Grand Opening • Renovation of The Grove's Interpretive Center is finally finished! We have transformed the space with larger animal tanks, an exciting and innovative "Turtle Island" habitat, and interactive exhibits. Kids can now explore items similar to what Robert Kennicott collected as a naturalist when he lived on The Grove’s property. A full-size replica skeleton of the Harlan's Ground Sloth (shown on the cover), an extinct relative of both the South American tree sloth and the prehistoric Megatherium, is part of the Jennifer Roberts President jennifer.roberts@ glenviewparks.org William Casey Vice President william.casey@ glenviewparks.org • exhibit about Robert's adventures at the Smithsonian Castle in Washington D.C. • Please join us for a free open house celebration on Saturday, February 22.
