(continued from page 17) Communicate. Make your relationships a priority. If you have a partner it is the most important relationship in your family. The transition to parenthood is much easier when new parents are able to talk
openly with each other about their needs and work together as a team.
Have fun. Sometimes family life can get so busy that we forget to have fun and laugh. Take time to schedule outings, walks or a date with your partner, friends and family.
Create your own ‘circle of support’. Surround yourself with supportive family members and friends
Schedule in time for just you. You are important. Being a parent is hard work and at times you may feel that you
are always giving your time and your energy. Spend time doing things you love: a hobby, a sport or just time alone.
This is good for you. It helps to renew your supply of energy and makes you feel good. When you feel good, you can
give more to your family and your partner.
Learn to manage your time effectively. Adjust your standards and expectations for yourself and your home to suit
your new family situation. Be realistic about what you can actually accomplish during the day.
