but I would suggest making it humorous and practical as you explain it. If they know why the rule exists, they will hopefully stop complaining about it.
There are a lot of other things you can talk about to your friends about the game so here are just a few more suggestions. Feel free to elaborate on them and remember that an educated consumer is more likely to be a loyal consumer.
• THE PENALTY KICK: A PSYCHOLOGICAL BATTLE BETWEEN PLAYER AND GOALKEEPER.
Explain the penalty kick to your friends. How and why it’ s awarded and what’ s going on. Give them information about the rules of the kick that the shooter and goalkeeper have to abide by.
• BICYCLES, SCISSORS, AND BANANAS ARE JUST SOME OF THE SOCCER SKILLS WITH UNIQUE NAMES.
Explain the soccer terminology that fans will hear associated with the skills of the game.
• MAKING SENSE OF FORMATIONS AND POSITIONS ON A SOCCER FIELD CAN BE A FUTILE EXERCISE. IT’ S NOT AS SIMPLE AS WHO’ S ON FIRST!
Your non-soccer friends won’ t know about names of positions on the field or formations and what they mean. In baseball, hockey, football and basketball, the names of positions in the game haven’ t changed in decades nor have formations. Keep it simple because naming positions on the field is about as complex as talking about formations, which is fancy terminology for where players position themselves on the field to start the game. After the kickoff, all hell breaks loose!
• WHY CAN’ T ANYONE TELL TIME IN SOCCER?
Probably the biggest mystery in soccer that a fan of the game may want to know is, how much time is remaining in the game? The answer: nobody knows! Explain.
And finally, the CBS broadcast team that hosts Champions League matches is outstanding. The team, headed by host Kate Scott, along with experts Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, is hilarious, fantastic at educating the viewer about the game, and they have a chemistry about them that will make people want to watch more. They have millions of views on social media and do a great job of selling our game. Seek them out on YouTube and send clips to your friends.
I hope you have success in inspiring not just your players, but others to follow our great game. Please feel free to let me know if you use other strategies to sell the game because we are all on the same team, trying to sell OUR GAME.
