YOUNG LAWYER SHOWCASE

The Young Lawyers Section( YLS) continues to host social events across the state, providing great networking opportunities for young lawyers. If you are interested in hosting or attending an event, please contact the Young Lawyers Section at younglawyersnd @ gmail. com. In addition, YLS will be hosting webinars on a variety of topics. All lawyers are encouraged to participate in these webinars to earn continuing legal education credits.
LONI NELSON
Loni Nelson is a staff attorney for the North Central Judicial District. A Minot native, she graduated from Arizona State University( ASU) with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communications. At ASU, she was a member of Cronkite News’ social media team and assisted the NCAA Final Four with media copywriting.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Nelson attended the University of North Dakota School of Law where she received her juris doctor and Indian Law certificate. During law school, Nelson was a member of the Law Women’ s Caucus, Indian Law Society, and served as an editor for the North Dakota Law Review.
She was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 2020. Prior to her current position with the courts, she spent one year in private practice primarily practicing in civil litigation.
In her free time, Nelson enjoys spending time with her family, attending book club, and playing pickleball, volleyball, and basketball where she is a standout in Minot recreation sports.

ZACHARY TOMCZIK
Zachary Tomczik is an associate attorney at Rosenquist Law Office, specializing in criminal and family law, and provides representation for the Grand Forks Juvenile Treatment Court. He is vice president of the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association and a member of the Randy H. Lee Inn of Court.
Originally from St. Cloud, Minnesota, Tomczik earned a bachelor of science in psychology and a bachelor of arts in honors from the University of North Dakota( UND) before graduating from the UND School of Law in 2022. During law school, he received the Lillian Elsinga Outstanding Student Leader Award. Tomczik is also an Eagle Scout, reflecting his longstanding commitment to leadership and community service.
In addition to his legal career, he is dedicated to civic engagement, serving on the boards of the Empire Arts Center, Global Friends Coalition, and Grand Forks Community Land Trust, as well as acting as the internal advisor for the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals. He also serves as vice president of the Northern Valley Dem-NPL. In his free time, Tomczik enjoys traveling, lake trips, and spending time with his partner and their two cats.
