At UND , Ernst teaches Constitutional Law I , Legislation , Gender and the Law , International Human Rights Advocacy , and she is the coordinator of our Professional Foundation course . The course brings back alumni from across North Dakota and engages multiple faculty in co-teaching the course .
Ernst is the faculty advisor to the International Human Rights Organization and the Multicultural Law Students Association , and she provides support for an innumerable number of UND events and activities that enhance our community every year .
Ernst is extremely active in local and state bar activities and has been a tireless advocate for UND Law in our statewide community . For example , she serves on the executive committee for the State Bar Association of North Dakota ’ s ( SBAND ) Women Lawyers ’ Section . On campus , among other activities , she serves on the law school ’ s Student Recruitment Committee , on our Inclusion Diversity , Dialogue , Equity , and Accessibility Committee . She is an inclusion ambassador , an Alice T . Clark Mentor , and she does so much , both large and small , to support our community .
Ernst is also an active scholar , and her work examines various rights under both constitutional and international human rights principles . She seeks to facilitate opportunities for scholarly engagement and the dissemination of knowledge and ideas throughout North Dakota . She is a regular contributor to SBAND ’ s magazine , The Gavel , and she has most recently published extensively in the “ North Dakota Law Review ,” including an extensive piece on the Mayflower Compact , a tribute to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg , and an article about eliminating bias . There simply is not enough space to adequately explain how important Ernst is to our law school , our campus , and our state-wide legal community . She embodies Sperry ’ s dedication to North Dakota and our law school , and it is an honor to announce that starting with the 2024-2025 academic year , Ernst will hold the title , the Floyd B . Sperry Professor of Law .
