SHINING EXAMPLES
OF WHAT WE STAND FOR
Meet the latest winners of the Governor James M . Cox Award and the Anne Cox Chambers Award
Extraordinary people inspire joy , radiate warmth and illuminate the right path for others — much like bright lights . At Cox , we ’ re fortunate to have many bright lights in our midst . We recently recognized two humanitarian leaders who are making life better for our employees and our communities , exemplifying the values at the very heart of our company .
ABOUT THE ANNE COX CHAMBERS AWARD This award recognizes Cox employees who are making a positive impact through volunteerism and community service . Anne Cox Chambers was the late daughter of our company ’ s founder , James M . Cox , and grandmother of our Chairman and CEO Alex Taylor . Much of her life was devoted to being a community leader and philanthropist .
ROGER TURNER Some people count their investments in dollars and cents . Roger Turner counts them by life-changing relationships . He has forged many of these by pouring countless hours into mentoring youths . And by that measure he is a very , very rich man .
Roger is an area fleet manager for the vehicle operations team at Cox Enterprises and a longtime volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta ( BBBSMA ).
For his decades-long dedication to mentoring , Roger earned the Anne Cox Chambers Award , which recognizes Cox employees making a positive impact through volunteerism and community service .

AN EARLY INFLUENCER Roger has mentored eight students from Chamblee Charter High School over the past 20 years . And he ’ s been a pillar of the BBBSMA Beyond School Walls Program since it was piloted at Cox in 2019 .
The program pairs students with Cox employees for weekly mentoring activities . The high schoolers ride a bus to the Cox campus to meet with mentors ( since the pandemic , the meetings have continued virtually ). Roger is especially passionate about being an example to young men who don ’ t have a father present . “ I grew up without a father and there was really no one who stepped in to take that role ,” Roger said . “ It ’ s rewarding to see how time spent with youth can make all the difference in the world .”
A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL Roger was paired with his most recent mentee , Nafis , during Nafis ’ sophomore year and throughout the remainder of his high school experience . “ I was really lost and needed somebody , and Roger came in ,” said Nafis , now a first-year student at Gwinnett Technical College . “ I think that had a great impact on my life .”
Roger said it means a lot to receive the Anne Cox Chambers Award . “ It ’ s awesome to be able to give money to an organization and carry on her legacy of community service .” The James M . Cox Foundation makes a $ 10,000 grant to the nonprofit organization of each winner ’ s choice .
