... We partner with other agencies and organizations in DeKalb and greater Atlanta to maximize the resources available for re-entry services . With Georgia Piedmont Technical College , we provide educational programs that include GED ( General Educational Development ) training and certification , and a Vocational Education degree program in Welding . With Worksource DeKalb , we help graduates identify and secure employment . With organizations like the Salvation Army and others , we locate temporary housing accommodations . With MARTA , we obtain bus and transit cards so transitioned individuals can get to interviews , classes , and new jobs .
Our inmate mental health services offices play a huge role in the effectiveness of our efforts to equip ex-offenders for re-entry . This service does not end when they leave our custody . Referrals and medication are available on transition . We are aware that the cause of much of the nation ’ s crime is rooted in mental disorder , but that the processes of preventive mental health help are complicated and personal . It is a continuing challenge we hope to meet with our community partners , as well .
Without the support needed to continue on a new , more positive trajectory , individuals return to the environments that contributed to their being arrested . This cycle can lead to recidivism . That is why we are involved and will do what we can to improve instances of re-offense and reincarceration .
We are proud to partner with DCS DeKalb Re-entry Services to affect this change and to eliminate further barriers to our neighbor ’ s futures as contributing members of society . Demonstrated outreach by public safety agencies is what we believe to be at the core of criminal justice reform .
