Interview NHS Leader - Stephanie Lee by Kitty Li

The National Honor

Society ( NHS ) is an organization that recognizes excellent high school students , and helps them to build their leadership , develop character , and encourage the desire to help others in society .
This school year , SLAS National Honor Society is led by Stephanie Lee , a 12th grade student . Much to our pleasure , the SLAS Times was able to interview her viewpoint on NHS 2022-2023 and her motives to become the leader .
Times : What drives you to be the leader of NHS ? Stephanie : I believe that it is the potential of the NHS and the SLAS community which motivates me to empower action . NHS is an interdependent team , and hence I work to bring synergy and maximize every effort . Often , I ask myself the question “ What would my best self do ?” Times : What is the best and worst part of being a leader ? Stephanie : The best part of being a leader is that I have the opportunity to hone my communicative and organizational skills . Within the National Honor Society , I devote myself into effectively outlining and communicating our vision , be it a random fundraising idea or a volunteer opportunity . Of course , there is a slight increase in workload , but I am happy to work collaboratively with the most humble and brilliant people . Times : What methods do you use to keep the team united and organized ? Stephanie : At the end of every meeting , our secretary would share meeting minutes with the entire club while I take advantage of programs such as Google Drive and Tencent doc to stay on top of every project . Times : What do you think are the biggest challenges that NHS 2022-2023 has faced ? Stephanie : I believe that the pandemic regulation
was one of the biggest challenges that we faced . Lunch kiosk was not possible , and club activities were restricted to non-social events . Times : What ’ s your biggest challenge when it comes to managing people ? Stephanie : I have not had a problem with NHS members in the past , and I try to make NHS an open community where its members can freely discuss their ideas . Times : What are some projects / events that NHS are doing and will do in this school year ? Stephanie : We are working on a year-long video project where once a month we create a video on social awareness . Additionally , we sold Christmas grams throughout the secondary department during Christmas season . We created a website and social media ( Instagram ), engaged in kiosks and outside-of-school volunteer opportunities . Especially since the Covid restrictions have lessened , I am looking forward to initiating more projects and stay activate in the school . Times : What is the most important thing you learned as an NHS leader ? Stephanie : The most important thing I learned as the NHS leader is that one has to expect challenges . More often than not , the NHS had to resist many of the current conditions to provoke changes . Then , it becomes part of my duty to motivate people , engage them , and make sure their strength is in play .
This year , SLAS NHS had overcome the difficulties brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic . Under the leadership of Stephanie Lee , the team is able to carry out as many projects as they can . Additionally , as Stephanie Lee said , “ one has to expect challenges ,” she and the NHS team never fear challenges , in which they focus on problem-solving than fearing challenges .
