IAN ARENDT
Ian Arendt is a staff attorney for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association ( AOPA ), headquartered in Frederick , Md . AOPA is the largest civil aviation organization in the world , with approximately 300,000 members — more than one-half of all
Arendt assists in the administration of AOPA ’ s Legal Services Plan , providing consultation to aircraft owners and pilots on various federal , aviation-related legal topics . Arendt is a regular contributor to Pilot magazine and assists with AOPA ’ s advocacy efforts . He was named counsel for AOPA on an industry-wide amicus curiae brief in the case Warbird Adventures , Inc ., et al . v . Federal Aviation Administration and has contributed to several other cases before the U . S . Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit . He is licensed to practice in North Dakota and Maryland .
Arendt grew up in rural Wisconsin and graduated from Sparta High School . He attended the University of North Dakota ( UND ), graduating in 2014 with a B . S . in aeronautics . Arendt earned his J . D . and Certificate in U . S . Air Transportation Policy in 2017 from the UND School of Law .
MACKENZIE HERTZ
MacKenzie Hertz is an attorney with the Vogel Law Firm in Fargo . She focuses her practice in litigation and is licensed to practice in North Dakota and Minnesota .
Hertz grew up in Mott , where her family farms . She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Jamestown in 2015 with a degree in political science and a minor in history . She went on to graduate with high distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2018 , completing the Litigation Skills Program as her concentrated area of study . During law school , Hertz served as the executive editor for the Nebraska Law Review and competed nationally for the National Moot Court Team . She was elected to the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barristers in recognition of her achievements during law school .
Before joining the Vogel Law Firm , Hertz served as a judicial clerk with both the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska . In her spare time , she loves to watch basketball and spend time with her family , friends , and husband , Ryan .
After graduating , Arendt was an associate attorney with Smith Porsborg Schweigert Armstrong Moldenhauer and Smith in Bismarck , where he argued before the North Dakota Supreme Court before moving to Washington , D . C ., with his fiancée , Shelby . Together , they were drawn back to North Dakota and now reside in Mandan with their golden retriever , Maggie .
Arendt is a member of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and the International Air and Transportation Safety Bar Association . He is a certificated private pilot and enjoys boring holes in the skies above North Dakota , being outdoors , and spending time with friends and family .
