A partial list of Harris Hoisting ’ s prior and ongoing projects includes Shae Stadium , Park Tower , Chase Center , Mission Bay Block 6 West , 49 South Van Ness , the San Francisco Crime Lab , the Southeast Community Center , Mission Rock and MacArthur Transit Village . While Tana considers near and dear to her all of the projects that she ’ s worked on because of how central they are to work , life and recreation in the Bay Area , she is particularly honored to be part of building affordable housing and creating community spaces . “ I used to live in affordable housing , so it has special meaning . It ’ s always a great feeling to help build something that benefits the community .”
As an Oakland-born , Black , female business owner with an over 30-year track record of success , Tana is very encouraging of others who are interested in construction-related careers . Her company offers employment opportunities to San Francisco residents through the
San Francisco City Build program and to fellow veterans through the
Helmets to Hard Hats program . She also mentors a number of other local small contractors , including Josh Kitching , CEO of Bay Area Pipe & Equipment , Inc ., also featured in this issue .

Despite her significant achievements , Tana remains very humble . “ We ’ ve had the willingness to do the work , put in the time and energy to learn what we don ’ t know and ask lots of questions ; however , we could not have gotten to where we are now without all of the support and encouragement we ’ ve received from General Contractors , public agencies and other LBEs . I am particularly grateful to the General Contractors who believed in me and gave me these opportunities . I am also thankful for my employees ’ willingness to work hard .”
