Before starting her own business , Tana first built her reputation operating cranes for all the large contractors – including Clark , Webcor , Hathaway , Nicholson and Shimmick to name a few – and found them all to be very supportive . “ I ran cranes on the Bay Bridge and Central Subway and was transitioning to the Salesforce Tower project , where I became the lead operator for the hoist and elevator scope of work . I started talking with Clark about wanting to get my contracting license after the project was finished . Clark not only encouraged me to get my license , but they mentored me while I was working for them as a crane foreman on subsequent projects .”
Tana credits her company ’ s Chief Operating Officer , Nicole Burgess , for figuring out how to incorporate the company in 2015 . “ I am more in the field than in the office and Nicole is a great business partner . She worked for the State of California for 20 years , so is very knowledgeable and has been right by me to help get the company paperwork in order .” Tana waited until 2018 to take on her first project as a business owner , but during those three years , she says , “ Clark really helped me transition to working as a second-tier contractor – it was a great experience and they still mentor and walk me through things .”
