Native Soil , Inc . is an Oakland-based landscape construction firm founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team , owners Emmanuel ( Manny ) Gomez and Angelina ( Angie ) Gomez . They are a landscape design-build firm for irrigation systems , hardscaping , and planting and provide construction services to projects with plans and specifications , as well as routine plant maintenance .
The couple has known each other since they were kids ; Angie met Manny when she was
6 years old . Both grew up in the same East Oakland neighborhood , attended the same elementary school , junior high and high school . They started dating each other during their second year of college .
Manny ’ s interest in landscape architecture began at an early age . His family migrated to Oakland from Jalisco , Mexico and five of his uncles worked in construction , most of them as hourly laborers for the same landscape construction firm . “ When I was about 12 years
